Professor Paul Harrison will become Sheffield Hallam University's new Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation in January.
Professor Harrison joins Sheffield Hallam from the University of Leeds, where he is currently Dean of Postgraduate Research Studies, a role which includes responsibility for developing research funding, marketing and recruitment and improving research students' experience.
His new role will see him take responsibility for the research portfolio at Sheffield Hallam. Prior to his current position, Professor Harrison was Head of the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Professor of Quantum Electronics at Leeds.
Professor Harrison has co-authored nearly 300 journal articles, written two books and established an international reputation in the field of theoretical semiconductor physics.
Commenting on the appointment, Sheffield Hallam Vice-Chancellor Professor Philip Jones said: "I am delighted that Professor Paul Harrison will be our new Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation. He brings excellent research and leadership credentials, and will be a valuable addition to the executive team."
