Philip Nelson, a Professor of acoustics at the University of Southampton, has been appointed as the next Chief Executive and Deputy Chair of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Professor Nelson, who until recently was Pro Vice-Chancellor for research and enterprise at Southampton and who chairs the general engineering sub-panel for the 2014 research excellence framework, will take up his new four year post from April. He will succeed the former Chief Executive, David Delpy, who was appointedin 2007 and invited to extend his role in 2011.
Professor Nelson said: “I am looking forward to working with colleagues across the research disciplines to ensure the continued health of the UK’s world-class science base upon which so much of our future prosperitydepends.”
