One of the UK’s oldest Catholic higher education institutions has gained the full university title, more than 160 years after it was founded.
St Mary’s University College, Twickenham, will become St Mary’s University, Twickenham, after being awarded the full title by the Privy Council.
The news follows the appointment of Francis Campbell, Head of the Policy Unit and Director of Innovation at UK Trade and Investment, as Principal.
Dr Arthur Naylor, Interim Principal, said the granting of university title will “facilitate its development both at home and abroad”.
The institution has around 5,000 pupils and is a member of GuildHE, the UK’s representative body for small and specialist institutions.
