Queen's University Belfast has announced that Professor Patrick Johnston, currently its dean of medicine, dentistry and biosciences, is to be its next President and Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Johnston, a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, is a leader in the field of cancer research and has led the modernisation of cancer services in Northern Ireland. He serves on the Medical Research Council Strategy Board, chairs the MRC Translational Research Group, and is a member of the Cancer Research UK Science Executive/Advisory Board.
Professor Johnston takes over at the helm of Queen's from Professor Peter Gregson, who stepped down in July.
